Home-buyers financial assistance programs
There are programs available to help you finance the purchase or renovation of a property. The Société d’habitation du Québec can help you determine if you qualify for any of these programs.
Home Buyer’s Plan (HBP)
The Home Buyer’s Plan allows you to withdraw up to $35,000 from an RRSP (Registered Retirement Savings Plan) to buy or build a residential property.
The amount you withdraw must, however, be reimbursed.
Check to see if you qualify by visiting Canada Revenue Agency’s website.
QST and GST rebates on new properties
Revenue Quebec will reimburse part of the taxes paid on a newly built house. The buyer must make the request within two years of the property transfer signing and must meet eligibility criteria.
Details are available on Revenue Quebec’s website.
Municipal financial aid for home buyers
Some municipalities and communities will offer financial assistance to people of modest means who wish to become homeowners. This aid can come in the form of subsidies or tax credits.
Check with your local municipal authorities and other organizations to see if you qualify.
Financial aid for sustainable housing
Those who want to purchase an environmentally efficient home or renovate a building to make it "greener" can obtain subsidies and financial aid.
You’ll find a full list of programs and financial aid on Énergie et Ressources naturelles Québec.
