6 bathroom trends to inspire your renovations in 2025

Published on February 18, 2025

In 2025, the bathroom is no longer a room to breeze through, it has evolved into the ultimate wellness destination. Think of it as ground zero to recharge your batteries in a little piece of homemade heaven. Whether you’re planning to renovate, add new features or set your home staging just so, take a look through these six major trends for ideas to realize this pivotal room’s full potential.

Overview:

Our colleagues over at RenoAssistance toured every interior design site they could find and consulted authorities on the topic to put together 15 on-trend ideas for the bathroom in 2025. DuProprio picked six of them to inspire your home renovations or home staging. You also won’t regret browsing through our kitchen picks that never fail to impress!

1. Custom-made storage

Picture a bathroom where every surface is expertly leveraged to maximize space. In 2025, custom-made shelving has become a must-have. This trend is one surefire way to simplify your life: less time wasted searching for MIA beauty products, less risk of tripping over something left on the floor. If you add shelves, they will get filled!

More than introducing a new storage solution, this is your chance to consider a new approach to the space, based on your personal needs. No matter the bathroom size, customized shelving squeezes the most out of each nook and cranny. Specially designed hanging shelves, built-in cabinets and modular furniture help keep the space in order, the first line of defence against daily chaos. Think about making the most out of often neglected areas (under the sink or above the toilet) to install a shelving unit and store towels and skincare products.

Not only that, this trend is your opportunity to instill some individuality into your bathroom. Pick materials that resonate with your style: go with a wood species for an oh so natural look or metallic finishes for a more industrial effect.

2. Wood panelling

The bathroom now does double duty as a place to recharge your batteries. Integrating natural materials would be a positive way to upgrade the space into a soothing refuge. What great timing: one of this year’s most standout trends is wood panelling (shiplap).

A grooved wall covering made of vertical or horizontal boards, it injects oodles of warmth and authenticity. If you want a cocooning atmosphere, this is undoubtedly the way to go.

Choose a light wood like pine or oak for a refined Scandinavian style or opt for a dark wood like walnut for a cozier vibe. Teak and cedar are regularly used in bathrooms because they’re moisture resistant. A water-repellent oil treatment may be applied for additional protection. If you’re not sure about covering an entire wall with panelling, select a smaller surface: a half wall or even a section near the bathtub or on both sides of the mirror.

3. Metal medley

This year, metal enters the bathroom with a bang. One unique finish or colour doesn’t cut it: the trend calls for blending to create new visual harmonies. Copper, chrome, brass… there are endless mix-and-match possibilities. You’ll get interesting results by switching up traditional combinations.

For example… what about installing a brass faucet beside a chrome towel rack? A gold mirror frame can be flanked by silver wall lights. This union of metals with hot and cold shades is enhanced by a range of textures: matte, polished, brushed, hammered. It introduces a contemporary feel in the bathroom, whether it’s minimalist, classic, industrial or... eccentric!

A tip to avoid going too far with the bling is to pick a dominant metal colour (like copper) and combine it with more discreet accents (like matte brass). Cabinet handles or decorative items will be enough to highlight the trend without overdoing it.

“Mix a maximum of two metallic colours at once,” says Marilena Tricarico, interior design expert, host and content creator at EspaceProprio. “And to get the mixing and matching just right, use one finish for all the faucets and choose a second one for hardware and accessories like light switches, door handles and mirrors.”

4. Natural Zen style

More than a simple trend, the Natural Zen style is a true lifestyle. The modern bathroom becomes a comforting bubble where each component, whether functional or decorative, contributes to cultivating calm.

Authentic materials such as wood, stone and bamboo create a sense of harmony. Liven up a relaxed colour palette – white, beige or pale gray – by introducing touches of green. Soft and indirect lighting is preferred: wall sconces, recessed lights or candle lights. Strategically placed house plants reinforce the connection with nature so think about adding some cute succulents or even a huge tropical plant (like Monstera deliciosa).

“Using timeless shades that are on-trend and understated is a smart move that will stand the test of time. It has a broader appeal than bolder shades that may fall out of favour fast,” says Marilena Tricarico. “And it’s a lot easier to find decorative items or handles and suspended or wall lighting.”

If you want to bring your ideas to life and are not sure where to start, Marilena Tricarico suggests a good first step is to book a consultation with an interior design specialist.

5. Vertical tile

Need a fresh outlook on life? Mounting tile vertically in the bathroom would be a great first step. This trend has been quietly percolating since the start of the 2020s and has now carved out its own niche alongside horizontal subway tile. Once installed, rectangular tile makes a room seem taller.

It will get even more attention when mounted on an accent wall by the bathtub, behind the sink or on a blank wall. It’s a simple and effective way to elevate your bathroom by visually breaking up the room’s overall look.

Choose a soft shade for the rest of the room. If you decide to go with patterned or coloured tile, use a subtle shade on the other walls.

6. Coastal bathroom

Fresh and bright, aqua blue brings a breath of fresh air to the bathroom. This soothing shade evokes tropical lagoons and calm seas. It encourages you to let it all go, relax and unwind. Natural materials like light wood and stone are perfect partners. Aqua blue has a bold and modern side too. If you’re looking for a sophisticated contrast, pair it with metallic touches.

Introduce it as tile on a shower wall. Apply it on an accent wall. Towels, bath mat or curtains in this calm colour will be enough to enhance the room without overwhelming the space. Include hints of copper or gold to infuse some added warmth.
