6 kitchen trends to inspire your renovations in 2025

Published on January 28, 2025

The kitchen is no longer simply a prep zone, it’s now the place where creativity and practicality mingle freely. New 2025 kitchen trends seek to reinvent one of the main rooms in your home with soothing colours, diverse materials and vintage touches. Whether you plan to spend a lot of time in your kitchen or want to attract higher offers to purchase, these inspirations will help you design a modern and welcoming space.

Overview:

Our colleagues over at RenoAssistance took a deep dive into design sites and consulted authorities on the topic to put together 15 kitchen trends you won’t want to miss in 2025. DuProprio picked six of them to inspire your renovations in this room of unrivalled importance in any property.

1. Using vintage accessories

Items from yesteryear have forged a choice position among 2025 interior design trends, especially in the kitchen. Placing accessories like aged wood shelves in underused corners, enamelled cast-iron cookware or antique ingredient tins in cupboards or on trays can add a dash of authenticity.

To maximize the rustic chic look, it’s recommended to choose items with character. A metal scale or wood coffee grinder check off multiple boxes as they can be considered both decorative and functional. Wood furniture with a slight patina finish accentuates the aged look. Lastly, in larger spaces, a piece of renovated wood kitchen furniture (sideboard or hutch) or a wrought-iron shelf would be attractive additions.

2. Glass light fixtures

Glass light fixtures are a must-have this year. Their transparent nature helps reflect lightness and brightness into the kitchen. Whether you like the look of wall sconces or pendant lighting over an island, glass blends so well with various styles, from minimalism to vintage all the way over to industrial.

Recycled glass is an excellent option to limit your environmental footprint. You can also use LED lightbulbs that resemble old school Edison models to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

3. Mixing materials

In 2025, kitchen material trends are taking innovation up a notch: bringing together wood, metal, stone and marble is becoming increasingly popular. It breaks up a monotonous look and introduces some personality into functional areas, giving the room a dynamic visual appeal.

“The trend to mix materials is part of a broader movement toward authenticity and aesthetic diversity – don’t be afraid to go bold!,” recommends Marilena Tricarico, interior design expert, host and content creator at EspaceProprio. “You could also paint some cabinets with a colour you love to create an accent among the wood shades or do the opposite and leave some doors varnished to infuse extra warmth in the space.”

Looking for more ways to add character to your décor? Replace the kitchen island with veiny marble. Dare to create an elegant contrast with a combination of chrome cabinet door handles and gold faucets. Add even more style with a backsplash that matches the countertop but has a different finish. Lastly, an island made from a mishmash of materials could become a showstopper in the kitchen.

If you want to bring your ideas to life and are not sure where to start, Marilena Tricarico suggests a good first step is to book a consultation with an interior design specialist.

4. Plaster range hood

Plaster is back in the kitchen in an unexpected place: as a range hood cover. It fits perfectly in a modern design using neutral and natural shades to give it some artisanal flair. This soft-textured material is the appointed successor to classic stainless steel that has been overwhelmingly popular in recent years.

Help the hood work double duty as a decorative feature by coating the casing with textured plaster. Go hog-wild and paint it to add extra dimension.

This trend doesn’t involve any major renovations. Simply remove some kitchen cabinets and install a plaster casing to house the range hood.

5. Coastal style

Inspired by houses and cottages dotting the landscape in coastal villages, this trend revolves around a clear and fresh palette, materials found in nature and light textures. The coastal style exudes tranquility by focusing on colours like beige, white and navy blue, with touches of pale wood and rattan thrown into the mix.

To recreate this mood, there’s nothing like furniture with simple lines and accents in natural materials to set the tone. Picture wicker baskets and linen curtains. A backsplash in sand shades or open shelves with decorative nautical objects reinforces the style. Make sure to finish the look off with sheer curtains that let in plenty of light.

6. The colour sage

Sage, an understated shade that borrows from green and gray, is THE kitchen colour of the year in 2025. It conjures up nature indoors as well as a calm, fresh sensation.

If space is tight, you’d be best off using sage green on smaller elements like shelves or counter accessories. In a more spacious environment, this colour applied on large flat areas, like cabinets or an accent wall, can produce a relaxing atmosphere. It highlights the beauty of details in wood, marble, copper or brass.
