Owners’ comments
Introduction: 8 Ch Ashley, known as Frog Hollow by friends, reflects the chorus of the spring peeper frogs that sing as the ice melts in the ponds in the municipal park behind the house. By summer a healthy population of bullfrogs takes over the chorus. Frog Hollow is a good home for nature lovers.
Location: This is an excellent home on a wedge-shaped, one-acre lot with plenty of play room in the back yard. It lends itself to outdoor enthusiasts with a family, as it is set on a quiet street in a mature maple and white pine forest. The lot shares the longest boundary of any property next to a hundred-acre natural park in the Ridge Group of Chelsea, Quebec. The ponds are a healthy ecological gem. They support a diverse population of flora, and fauna which can be observed year-round from the surrounding walking and biking trails just steps from the house.
This house is just a five-minute walk to a community-supported, prize-winning pond hockey rink. If you like to sail it is a ten-minute walk to the Gatineau River Yacht Club. The village of Old Chelsea, with grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacy and elementary schools is just a short ride away by bike or car. The lights of Gatineau and Ottawa are just fifteen minutes down the road.
The Home: This cedar clad, three-bedroom home has been lovingly cared for by its original owners. It features several bay windows with vistas of the surrounding woods. The spacious kitchen and adjacent nook have been recently refinished, along with the bathrooms. There's a walk-in pantry in the kitchen. A large studio over the garage could be used as an artist studio, extra guest room, or musical practice area.
The oak hardwood floors in the living room, dining room, and front hall were recently refinished. Combined with a wood stove in the family room, fireplace in the sitting room and the electric forced-air furnace, "Frog Hollow" has a warm welcoming glow to it for family and friends.
The study, off the main entrance, has a built-in bookshelf for those times when you just want to retreat with a good book or get things done. It can double as a main floor guest room if you like.
The basement houses a large workshop/gardening area with a convenient ground-level door to the outside. A recreation room has also been built for a variety of uses. There is lots of storage space for camping or travel gear, gardening paraphernalia or hobby supplies.
The spacious, elevated, outside balconies have entertained many, during lazy summer evenings. They are a great place to relax over breakfast or coffee while enjoying the mature shade garden.
Technical Elements: The well water is clear and plentiful. The hot water tank has just been replaced. The house is served by fiber internet if you need such distractions. The roof was recladded with long-life asphalt tiles seven years ago. There is also a central vacuum system.
Conclusion: Frog Hollow is looking for someone to love her for many years to come.
