Owners’ comments

Just a few steps from town, this beautifully renovated four-bedroom three-bath home is so private it cannot be seen from the road. The nearly seven-acre property features many mature trees and is an oasis of green space.

Come in through the back porch and leave your coat and boots in the mudroom. The kitchen has an island so big it is more like a continent so we named it Australia! A cozy eat-in space for you and yours or big enough to handle a potluck dinner for 30 guests with their casseroles and dessert plates spread all over. There is a ton of storage in the kitchen, and as an added bonus there is a wonderful pantry with even more counter and storage space plus another big sink - perfect for rinsing your cappuccino accessories or washing fresh vegetables from the garden.

From the pantry, it is a short morning shuffle to the sunroom; a heartwarming three-season fully-enclosed porch. You can enjoy your morning coffee or tea while listening to the birds or enjoy a candlelit dinner while the setting sun casts mystical shadows on the trees.

From the kitchen, you can also access the large unfinished basement. There are more counters and a large space for your workshop. You can tuck four seasons worth of athletic gear on the shelves waiting to trade ski gear for soccer cleats and riding boots.

The back porch overlooks a lawn big enough to play soccer, volleyball, badminton or croquet or all four combined! It is also perfect for dogs, cats, and chickens to wander about. There is a vegetable garden and beyond the pine trees, a large paddock that is home to many songbirds and butterflies in the spring and summer months. The property is zoned agricultural and offers enough space for a hobby farm.

The living room and dining room feature beautiful wood wainscoting and hardwood floors with an extraordinary patina that produces amazing shades of brown, gold and grey. There is a full bathroom on the first floor featuring a Victorian-style clawfoot tub. There is also a large and airy room that can serve as an office

Climb the wide front staircase and you will find yourself on the second floor. There are three bedrooms each with sunlit windows and the natural privacy that comes with the trees on the property. Each of the bedrooms has large closets perfect for four-season storage. The second-floor bathroom has a stand-up shower and a large whirlpool bath. There is also a game room with plenty of space for arts, crafts, exercise equipment, and games galore.

The third floor is a spacious master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, cathedral ceilings, and overhead fans. The bathroom features both a standup shower and the classic clawfoot tub. The windows overlook the trees and the entire room is bathed in natural light. There are ample storage and closet space behind barn wood doors.

The home is perfectly situated in close proximity to the highway that will take you to Mont Orford, Owls Head and Bromont (to the North) or Jay Peak, Burke, and Stowe (to the South). A short walk up the street and you will find yourself meandering along the shores of picturesque Crystal Lake with its resident loons. And if cycling is something you enjoy, ride down the driveway, turn left or right and you have multiple stunning routes to explore. Lake Memphremagog is a short drive away as are a myriad of walking, cycling, ATV and snowmachine trails.

Located only 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) from the border, you can order calzones from Hoagies or vegetable low mein from Wok n Roll in Newport VT and then drive across the line to pick them up. You can drive 20 minutes up the road to dine on rue Principale in charming and chic Magog QC. And you can go to the world-famous Haskell Free Library and Opera House where the stage of the Opera House is in Canada while the majority of the audience sits in the United States.

All of these wondrous experiences are within reach when you live in this charming, warm, and unique home located in Stanstead QC.
